Repowering

I a looking to repower to a 4 strike Yamaha - probably 150 due to the difference in weight (I currently have a 200 Evinrude '95). Anyone have any good ideas when the best time to do this is?

Its better to by an air conditioner in the winter, does the same apply for an outboard So far, I get the sense its a sellers market for outboards. Just curious if anyone has any advice on when the best time to reporwer is. My current engine runs fine, so I fortunatly have the luxury of chosing when to upgrade. - bit I want a good deal. Based on some calls to loca Yamaha dealers, it looks like the F150s go for 12,000 plus about $2500 for installation. Yamaha is offering 1300 rebate thru July on istall Is it worth it to do it now, or wait until winter? Just wondering is someing went through this process and knows when the best time is to by an outboard.

Take a look at this website. It is a good place to start for a good price on outboards.

Better call around and try to get a better price on that man. I had my new Yamaha 150 installed for $125 from a dealer but all they had to do was hang it and hook up the existing oil tank and existing controls. $2500 to install sounds WAAAAAAY high to me.

Also, I was told that you have to have the dealer install it in order to validate the warranty, but according to the last dealer I spoke with they were willing to let me install it and they would "check it" afterwards for a small fee in order to validate the warranty.

Just something to think about - by the way - we all hate you for getting a new 4-stroke!! It just ain't fair!

About your question, unless you get hold of a "leftover" motor (new previous year's) I doubt you'll see much of a drop in $$ between now and winter.

Good luck Buckley and keep us posted!

Thanks Blue. I decided to wait since its gonna require the boat out of commission for at least 2 weeks. Would rather use her now and wait to do the upgrade over the winter. I've been saving for this for a while, just got a nice promotion, and since I had my first boat at 13 I have never owned an outboard engine that was under 10 friggen years old. Broken down an awful lot in the last 20 years.

I'll keep you all posted and will post some pics soon.

buckley, I paid less than the motor price you show above for my 150 Honda INSTALLED w/ a SS prop...now mine was only w/ controls and no gauges, so consider that, but $2500 sounds a might high ::) ...
