New NC State Record Tarpon
Landed on Bogue Inlet Pier (yesterday I think). Check it out:
9-08-05 ............THURSDAY ............ NEW STATE RECORD! ........... Congratulations to JESSE LOCKOWITZ (Cape Carteret, NC)--- with his 175 lb. TARPON caught last night! ............. The TARPON was 83" long with a 42" girth, and took almost 1-1/2 hours to fight on 20 lb. test! .........We weighed the fish at 170 lbs. , then he took the fish to CAROLINA BAIT & TACKLE in ATLANTIC BEACH and GEORGE PRUETTE, weighmaster, officially weighed it at 175 lbs! ......... Jesse plans to have the fish mounted! .......... This has been a late year for TARPON; normally they arrive here to spawn in the NEUSE and PAMLICO SOUND in early AUGUST! (We're probably on the return cycle!) http://www.bogueinletpier.com/P0002951.JPG |

Re: New NC State Record Tarpon
kool, what's that large pipeline thing running down the center of the beach?
|
Re: New NC State Record Tarpon
that was the armys pipe used to re supply the beach with sand. They dregged out our channels and pumped the sand onto the beach so we wouldn't have to worry about hurricane erosion as much.

P.S. About the height and weight of that "kid" - I really have no idea how big he is. But, if the fish is 83", that would be 6'9". Mouth closed on the fish would put the top of the head right at the top of the "kid's" head. So, how much tail is curled up on the deck? Is it 9"? That's the real question ;) |
