Are there any fasteners on the market that can be used in fiberglass installizations where you can not or don't to get behind to place a nut? *Thanks Bill Mc

We have the togglers at work. I don't know what there called but you predrill a hole insert a threaded insert and fasten it in place with a tool similar to a rivet gun. We use them in metal a work. I was wondering about fiberglass. What I want to anchor is a vhf radio to the surface under my steerling wheel to the right. would plastic anchors work? Bill Mc

I dont see why not?? They make them to hold seats down!!

Or you could attach the base to the surface in a bed of 3M 4000UV. Tape it until it cures.

Is this an epoxy? Would you still put the screws in the base for additional holding strength? Thanks Bill Mc

3M 5200 or its fast cure 4200 counter part. This is a below the water line epoxy.
I have used this for tons of stuff!! I glued a cutting board to my boad 5 years ago with the stuff and I bet I could lift the boat up by there!

3m4000UV is new.

It is like 4200 in that it is somewhat flexible and is removable without the magic potion like 5200. It is just as strong as 4200 (extremely), has the ability to stick to plastics such as ABS and has an additive that resist UV light degradation.

I would not use screws. I would take the plastic swivel base to my radio and place this in a small bed of 4000UV and hold in position with duct tape until fully cured. Then remove tape and install radio. Non invasive and if/when you want to relocate VHF, or get a different VHF with a diff base -- you can remove and start all over again without holes left over.

ps my VHF is on my dash -- but that is how I would handle your situation.

SK MJ thanks for the info. I'm used to having all my electronics right in front of me from my CC Gruman. My boat has a radio (1990) it has no buttons on the mic for channel 16 or volume. The radio is located inside the cabin on the bulkhead behind the steering wheel. I'd like to have it in front of me so I can see what channel I'm on or going to. Bill Mc
