side scan sonar

Hey guys, just wanted to share a recent experience of mine. I have a new job driving project support boats for the navy, as part of my job, I drag around some very very very high dollar sonar gear, the fish wieghs about 300 pounds, its big. Well I have gone and done this and seen the results. It is incredible how high resolution this thing is, you can tell what model car body is on the reef, you can SEE individual fish, every little item on the bottom is there for you to see, including a few sets of artificial reef structures that some charter boat guy must have made ;D, I now know exactly what, where and how much, what color, what type..lol of grouper ghettos, are out there in my litttle piece of the gulf. If I can get some jpegs I will post them, you guys will be impressed with this gear.

Mirage - this sounds great!! I'd love to see that sonar in action. I couldn't imagine what you can find with one of those sonars . . . especially with that type of detail. What kind of range does the sonar give you?

If the Navy decides to get into commercial fishin', the local boys are in deep-poop!... ;D...
