What year for scuppers?

You may have seen my post for looking to buy a v20. As Bluerunner helpfully pointed out - I am going to wet slip the boat, and he suggested against an early (72 in this case) V20 because no scuppers.

What year started scuppers? Any retrofits possible?

Thanks

You may be able to retro fit scuppers if there is enough deck height above the water line. Search for scupppers in google, some boats have been sunk because debris kept a scupper open when they were to close to the water line. Water came into the back of the boas, into the bilge area. Unless all the deck hatches are watertight, I'd be sure to have a good bilge pump on charged batteries. If it's gonna be in a slip, have shorepower and a onboard battery charger. Just my 2 cents worth

use double scuppers. They make Scupper drains for cabins below water level that will drain but not let water in with a hose. Just put them in your deck then run a line out the transom on both sides and put scuppers over the lines so incase the set on the back of the boat get stopped up you have a back up in the flor too. Look on www.boatfix.com for them. They will have a good but reasonable set. Here's a link to see the below water line deck drains with scupper balls.

http://www.saveabuckmarine.com/image...g/232-csd2.gif use these in the deck and these on the transom for double safety.

Thanks Skools Out - so then it seems like I could make an older V20 work in a wet slip? Or is it still too risky?

It's a great idea, but I'd still have a good bilge pump

HOLD THE PHONE!!!...you gonna take an early V20 and stick scuppers thru the transom w/expectations of that becoming a self-bailing hull...in addition to the scuppers, plan to RAISE the floor deck ABOVE the waterline and fill in that big open area to the bilge under the splashwell...AFTER you do all that it MIGHT reliably drain water off the deck... :o...then figger out HOW to, then carry out the modifications needed to make the in-floor hatches self-draining...

If you 're gonna wet-slip it, get a hull that the FACTORY designed to be self-bailing...and save yourself a lotta GRIEF...lordamercy... ::)...
