I would be afraid to wax the deck, might get slick. Do you think you could compound it to bring back a little color?

the deck should never be waxed!! :o
If it is real bad and you must do something to it then look into some good deck paint!! Paint in a day on the water for the weekend and years more to go! |

A quart of Awlgrip. It's expensive and will take a little labor to do but your deck will look great when you're done with no need to wax. They sell this plastic dipped carpet stuff you could apply over the deck if you like.

Oh maybe I am getting carried away here; we cleaned it with Mr Clean the other day - it came out quite white - I am just concerned about the sun's deterioration of the fiberglass and how to protect it - but maybe I am too worried - the boat is a 76. But it is only in the sun in summer - but it is going to Florida this winter and will be in stonger sun - I guess I better cover it when I leave it down there over the summer?

My deck is 1975 and is fine. *Get a cover for the boat if you must, but worry less and fish more!
Stuff called On Off will clean what ever you have!! Just use gloves and don't get on the trailer!~! will turn the trailer black!! |

GC, If you are bringing the boat to Florida you REALLY will need to cover it if it will be sitting in the sun. Don't get the cotton canvas as it will get mildewed and rot. Spring for the polyester with the five year warranty. Trust me, I have been there. They cost between $250 and $300 but are worth it. I actually use the I/O model even though I have an outboard. I made a PVC prop to keep the rain from puddling. My 73 has survived 20 years next to the house under covers. The sun down here is a killer in the summer! :P

Many thanks for the cover info - will do! Polyester. Can you tell me where it would be best to find one and the size required for V20 outboard. The cover I have (old needs new) does not quite fit over the whole bow area. How do you protect sides - throw tarp over all? How about moisture problems?

I waxed the top deck front of the windshield and am gonna glue indoor/outdoor carpet to the main deck. I'll prolly Awlgrip the hull above the waterline when the rainy season quits.
