Buying a V20
 

Ok.....I need some help.....

I found a 1976 V20 with a 2001 Yamaha Engine.....Engine is in excellent shape. Can't say the same for the boat.

There a couple soft spots around the floor and it only comes with one fuel tank. The previous owner also says he doesn't like to walk on the bow. Also they step ladder is coming apart.

Are these easy fixes? If I could pick the boat 3 to 4 grand would it be worth the trouble?

You need to give us more info, a pic or two would help. How soft are these soft spots and where. If you are talking about the removable deck covers for live well and other storage they are a fairly easy repair. If you are talking about a lot of flex in other floor areas the work is extensive but can be done, several here have done it.
Major concern would be if the transom also is soft, do a search on transom on this site and get the scoop on checking it out and do so.
If it needs a transom and floor work and you intend to fish in it anytime soon you better be prepared to work for weeks to get it done.
Me personaly I would get more details and check out the boat for specific problems, if it has a bad floors and a bad transom I would look elsewhere unless you want to get a project boat and that is your desire.
If the trailer is good and the engine is good you could low ball the fellow and sell them separatly and make a few bucks as long as you can part out some of the boat and don't have to pay to get rid of it. JUst a thought.

It will fly!


In other words run away don't walk!! Lotsof boats out there for that money, some good boats crap moptors, or good motors crap boats!

Get a good boat and repower later!

The two soft spots are about 3/4 of the way up the the aft panel about 3-8 inches to the left and right of it.

It also has one of those big transom plates? I don't really know what that means.

There is only one wAy to tell, you have to go look!!

Check transom, lift motor up then grab motor lift up if you hear cracking or see movement run away, as far as floor goesa, it might be as simple as replcing a section, orm removing the whole floor and starting from stratch!

Boats look good in pictures! Got to go look!!

NADA says motor worth $5000 if it checks out good. Trailer worth something, cut up the boat and junk it!

Then look for another boat, there are lots with no trailers.
