transom flex?
How much flex is considered normal for a transom of an 84 V-20? I keep looking at V-20's from the 80's and the transoms always seem to flex to much for me. I checked this one out awhile back and all on it looked good with the exception of the transom seemed to move more than I liked. The flex seemed to come mostly from the top port engine mount bolt. But what do you guys consider normal for your V-20's?

Re: transom flex?
Not having any better sence, but just enough to not have the motor break off.

Re: transom flex?
I would hope it don't fall off. I'm just wonderin if my 270 leaning on it aint flexin em to much.

Re: transom flex?
My '84 doesn't flex at all with my 220#s on the motor.

Re: transom flex?
I have stood on the lower unit of my trimmed up Yamaha 200 and even bounced a little. No flex at all.

Re: transom flex?
Yes, if on a trailer the trailer springs should lower before the transom flexes. Now if on blocks I can see where you might be able to flex it a little. Mine on the trailer has zero flex.

Re: transom flex?
Ferm ... I look for flex ... and LISTEN for noise ... a little movement doesn't bother me as much as hearing fiberglass cracklin ... ;) ...

Re: transom flex?
I'm with all so far...ZERO flex with you standing on it bouncing. Your 270 is ALLOT less poundage than that prop puts off...garanteed. ;)

Re: transom flex?
That's what I figured, I just can't believe my run of luck finding boats with spongy transoms. It must be a gift or somethin. I'm going to pass on this one. It's got a nice trailer and the hull overall is nice, but the transom worry's me.

Re: transom flex?
I've got to think that after 20+ years it would be hard to find a V20 withoug a little flex. For those of you who have rock solid transoms after this much time, consider yourself very lucky. The seal on the top of the transom is pretty poor on these boats. Mine has more flex that I like, but it will perform just fine until I cut into it and replace the transom.
