Thinking Of Buying a 1982 V-20 Fisherman

Seem like nice boats. Never had a Wellcraft before but have heard good things about the V20 hull. The boat is in pretty good shape. Transom work recently done, hull and floor reported to be solid. Some electronics - but nothing extravagent. Has a 150HP Johnson on it now that runs good but has some hours on it. Any advice? Things to look for? Questions to ask?

I want to fish Lakes Erie and Ontario. Seems like this platform (8" beam I think - right?) ought to be pleanty stable even in some chop?

Any advice appreciated. Asking price is about $4500 or so.

Welcome to the site WNY_PAT.

I have only had my V-20 for two weeks now and made my first maiden voyage last Friday. I know the Veteran V-20 guys will have much to say about the vessel. As for me, I just love it! The V is very stable and the hull cuts thru the waves like a knife thru warm butter. I was very impressed when I took it in the ocean, and it is a very dry boat to ride in. The 8' beam makes it plenty roomy for fishing along with the added stability. As for the asking price ($4500) it seems reasonable enough considering I paid $5500 for my 1976 V-20. I guess the price all depends on how much you like/love the boat. If you do purchase it you will be pleased IMO. Good luck

ALRIGHT - another V-20 hittin Lake Erie!
I have an 82 also - here's some pics to get you rev'd up. You're going to love it. No other boat this size with more room for fishing, period. Were banging out the walleyes right now and there's plenty for you. Nice flare in the front to push the water away and great lines from the side - gotta love the swale. Here's my 82 on Erie

Looks great. Who painted your top cap and how's it holding up?

I did the paint, in and out and all around. So far, holding great. The paint on the cockpit floor is another deal though. I'll wait till the end of the season and try and remove what's left and try the stuff MJ used.

Wiseguy,

I checked out your gallery. Very nice work. I'm sure you posted this already, but what type of paint did you use and what size tip on your sprayer? Any orange peel?

Maury

Welcome aboard the board WNY_PAT!!

If you can't find an answer for your question here, then you won't find it anywhere.

You can not go wrong with a V-20. *If you can go get some pics of the boat you are looking at, we can evaluate it a little better for you.

What year motor, what kind of transom work, are there seat cushions, all this will affect the value.

Welcome to the site. WISEGUY, thats a clean V you got there. Come on over and paint mine. I was hoping to get the guys at the V-20 get together to do some painting, but the only thing they kept holding were cold brews and not paint brushes. ;D
