Apology to a Crabber

So I was out towing my girlfriend around on her wakeboard in the Gulf when I had to pull her in because of some serious back spasms (whole other story), I had cut the motor to be safe and got her on board.

Once on board I needed to head back to shore so I started up and eased it into gear so I wouldn't agitate her back anymore, and it died. Started up again, eased it into reverse and it died again. The ball was full so I decided to raise the motor to have a look.... wouldn't budge. Then I noticed the chewed up styrofoam floating around and realized I must have backed into a crab trap line. Hopped in and tried to un-do it, not happening. Had to pull the knife and slice through..... No name or address since I chewed up the buoy.

So anyway, I officially apologize to whoever owned the trap, if I could have avoided it I would have. Please accept so I can clear my Karma.

/Dan

Oh CTT too funny :)

Dan you shoulda took the trap, then find the owner.

But not before eating the crabs. ;)

Ha, yeah the stone crabs are quite a meal.

I was so worried about losing the prop that I didn't pull the trap. Once the line was cut, the rope was nowhere to be found. Plus I believe the owners info is on the buoy, which was destroyed.

I really do feel bad, those crabs fetch near $18-$20/lb right now.

WELL DAN, CRAB HAPPENS!!! IT WAS "AN ACCIDENT"
(THAT'S WHAT MY KIDS SAID WHEN THEY BROKE MY PLASMA TV PLAYING BALL INSIDE THE HOUSE) BUT MY REACTION WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT.

Just the license number is on the bouy. Every trap has a tag on it with the fishermen's info.
The fisherman would be happy to get a pot back, and be more that happy if you ate the contents, pots are expensive..

There are however issues:
It is a felony to have someone else's pot on your boat. (looks like your stealing)
The pot is still fishing, killing crabs that could be harvested.
A catch 22 created by lawmakers who did not take the time to understand the fishery. It happens all the time.

"If" it does happen again I'll be sure to pull it up. I'll deal with the sheriff if he happens to ask what I'm doing. Wish I could have thought a little more about the trap and less about the prop, but a bit of survival instinct must have kicked in.

Learning experience.
