Newbie needs some help

Hey guys (and girls if any) - i haven't posted here much. I'm a classic mako owner.

I need some help and quick opinions. I am looking at a 76 Wellcraft 20cc. It was listed here recently

If i remove the cap on this boat, is the deck all built into it? The reason i ask is in regards to the front casting deck. The PO cut huge access hatches up there. I would want to fix them from underneath.

Any thoughs/opinions?

I am thinking of buying this old girl with the understanding that there might be some serious issues with stringers/transom, etc.

I really want to know if i pull the cap, does the deck stay in the hull or will it come out with the cap?

Thanks guys!!

Mike

Maco -

just so i'm understanding right. The top cap comes off in one piece and all that is, is the gunnels and bow area. Then i would remove the liner in which the deck and everything would come out with it?

looks to be that way to me, but I personally have never had one apart. Trust Maco, he knows what he is talking about.

Remove the rub rail and all screws, then get a hold of the liner and lift, if the floor is junk then I am sure that the liner will lift up with little or no trouble, but it may be attached to the stringers some places and you will have to use a board or something to pry it lose.

Then all you have left is a big salad bowl. ;)
