1981 V20 title question
 

Hello everyone I am new to this site and I recently was on craigslist and picked up a 1981 V20 165 hp for free. The guy was giving it away. My question is the title says it is a 1981 but the Vin numbers on the boat and the title show it as a 1975? Does anybody know why?

The HIN doesn't lie. Could be a paperwork error, or something fishy. As long as the title has the correct HIN on it, you should have no problem.

Unless the boat is stolen. :o

Thanks, do you know for whart period of time the boat model stayed the same for? I am thinking that from like 1975 to 1981 the miodel was left untouched?

Welcome to the site.
The coast guard will straighten it out during the next registration.
I've had boats for 25 years with some discrepancy as to HID numbers and actual lengths, types, etc.
Just in the last few years they have become corrective about evertyhing related to the numbers. Usually in our favors.

wellcraft made the same hull for like 16 years! But the caps are differt thur out the years.

Not that a pic wil tell us the truth, but anything under a 76 looks different then the newer stuff, do you have a picture you can post??

Usually the last 4 digits in the HID number reveal the year. M75I would be a 1975

Don't know the answer for sure but I think from 1970 - 1976 (maybe 1977) were pretty much the same as far as the hull, cap, windshield etc.

Early to late 70s were much the same...late 70s they went to a taller cap to accomodate a higher, self-bailing floor-deck...and a belly tank (60 gals) upgrade from the saddle-tanks ... by 81 all those improvements were in production ...

So...what's yer HIN? ... belly-tank or saddles? ... pix will help us, too ;) 8) ...
