Hows a V20 25 miles offshore ?

Thanks for all of you help on other posts.

How comfortable are you guys with your boats that far out ? Or do you take them there. I spend aprox. 25% of my fishing off shore with no more than 2'-4' seas. Is this too much even for the V20 ? Again, thanks for your input !

Well here on the east coast in Ma. I have had the bat 20 miles off shore, but you have to pick your days, Leave early, and head back by noon time or you going to get caught by the afternoon wind!!

2 to 4 foot seas in a V20 is do able, But its a long slow ride, or a long bumpy ride if you try to go fast.

Have to pick your days in any 20' boat, regardless of model. Most of my fishing is done in the ocean the last few years, just know the conditions and keep an eye to the weather and you'll be fine.

MJ made the most important point. PICK YOUR DAYS!!! That goes in any boat. Remember, offical posted wave height( from government weather sources) is measured to the mean height(from normal height if the ocean was calm), meaning that a 2-4 can be 4-8 from bottom to top. I wouldn't want to be in much of anything that fits on a trailer in waves that are 8' high

We've taken ours out 25 miles to the Oriskany with no problem. Though, there have been days when we didn't bother to check the forecast and got out in the gulf to find it rough as he**! Still went fishing. . . . at least until we was looking up at waves. :o

a freind of mine once said while standing on the dock, " I'd rather be here and wishing i was out there, than out there wishing I was here"

Spare, those are wise words. I have done both and agree with your friend.

Now today, I do wish I was out there... ;D

My 75' went offshore regularly. My problem wasn't how the boat handled, but fuel capacity. Two 18 gal saddle tanks didn't cut it. I had three 12 gal plastics in the back to add more capacity. Realize however, I usually ran the Mississippi River about 20+ miles to its mouth before heading out so I needed the extra gas. She'll take 4 footers all day long as long as you know how to steer her :)
