2006 ETEC 60hp no oil alarm

Hey guys, I have a 2006 60 hp etec on my pontoon boat. When I took it out of the water the no oil alarm showed its ugly face. It has the oil tank under the cowling, which was nearly full.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what might cause it and what might be involved in fixing it? Also, if is complicated, wondering if just disconnecting the oil injection and going with premix might be an easy option on this motor?

Thanks,
Blue

Don t know about evinrudes, but merc s of that size have have issues with oil tank alarm failures. The alarm is built in the tank and comes as one unit.

If not too costly and it s reliable, i d try to keep the injection system intact. I think 2S run better when not oil rich

Hopefully Spare will be along with some real knowledge.

I just read where it isn't possible to bypass it because the way it injects the oil in each cylinder? Saw also where maybe it could be the oil pressure sensor? Agree with you phat about leaving it intact if it is reliable. I haven't hear of any widespread issue with the oil injection failing with etecs, but suppose that is possible.

If you're like me you hate it when a computer tells ya you can't do something that should be really easy! That drives me up the wall! Like my old Honda foreman 450 electric shift. I ended up bypassing the computer because it wouldn't shift. Best thing I ever did!

is that carb or fuel injected?

Blue_Runner 12-17-2024 04:41 PM

Phat it is direct fuel injection

Being DFI, probably gonna have to get it working,

Ive got no idea, i learned a long time ago to stay away from those things.

I'm not exactly sure how those things are set up. If its like the older OMC product, they had a screen in the oil tank that was known to get stopped up, especially if it had been sitting for a while. Wouldn't hurt to clean out the oil tank and check the pickup in it. While you're at it, see if it has a float sensor in it to check teh oil level. They can get stuck, you can put an ohm meter one the leads to teh float and see if it moves when you move teh float. Sorry, but beyond the basics, I'm just not familiar enough with those engines to help much.

Spare & Phat,

The toon has sat up quite a bit. I did read something about a filter/screen getting clogged. Maybe I'll give it a shot. If not I'll need to see if I can find a shop that can take a look at it.

I really appreciate the replies. I'll post back as soon as it can rise up as a priority on my list LOL.

Why can’t you just add the oil to the gas and bypass it. I did on my mercury. I was told to do that for a long time but I didn’t 7ntil it stopped working. Very close to the marina. ( Lucky) now I just add 13 oz for five gallons of gas. And use the liquid transfer pump from harbor freight. Works out great. That’s 50 to 1
