Use heavy sinkers when needed !

Fluking the ocean…..calm seas and easy drift BUT the current was racing .

Fishing structure means snagging easily especially if scope let out to account for the current and to keep the rig at bottom.

So, use heavier sinkers of 8,10, 12 oz or more to fish more vertically and keep the bait at and just above the rubble.
It works just use heavier rod/ reel and it’s fine

I hate using heavy weight when drifting fluke, I know that’s where the fish are , maybe that’s why I don’t catch big fish. I like calm water and light tackle. I think I’m going to jig for fluke from now on and gulp. I like dragging bait (squid and spearing) but looks like jiggin is catching more fish. .

There was a post on here 10 years ago on how to "bounce ball" fish for fluke.
The author was from the west coast and was using 2lb balls for the monster Hallibut they have over there, but I copied his rig and substituted a 1lb ball instead of the 2lb. Works great.

Do a search for:

and look for DustyCajun's post on the first page a few posts down right after my post to him. There's a diagram of the rig.
