Fluking North Jersey

With reports continuing to be of slow fluking, went out Saturday and worked over my usually spots. Grand total 4 barely over , about 10 throw backs and a few 1-2lb blues.

Large whale came up for air about 100 feet away, that’s close .
Nice day. Seas mostly 1’-2’ which my Formula 233 eats up with 24 degree deadrise.
Some might call the choppy period 2’-3’ but I’d say more like 2’.

My routine :
1. Raritan Bay spring stripers to June
2. Seabass on the structure NE of Belmar
3. Summer ocean fluking
4. Later summer fluke, and lobster pots for Mahi
5. Fall assorted and then back to Stripers till December

Shark River Inlet is excellent- short, no sand bars, easy.

Thats a lot of water your covering. Is that in your boat? And where do you leave from? I leav3 from Atlantic highlands and the farthest I went but dont do it anymore was the mud bouy. Thats about 13 miles south east from the point of 5he hook. Now I stay close to the marina and don;t go out far.
Lobster pots? Isnt that the mud hole or 17 fathoms area?

I avoid the busy Highlands ramp - using Browns or the place across from it for Raritan Bay.
Then Shark R for the other species after the Raritan spring stripers
Yes to your other questions in my boat.

Browns ? They don’t let you use the ramp , I wanted to go there but they said you can5 use our ramp
And the marina across the street from 5hem is a &itch at low tide
My son use to keep his boat in the water at browns

Believe it’s called Keyport Marine Basin ….little ramp

steplift20 08-29-2024 03:06 PM

I know that ramp, I don t like it
Thats a long ramp thatsnext to a party boat, use to be the captain John. Right?

Out again Sunday afternoon ….. two nice keeper fluke, one sea bass.

Then spotted action off the beach on ride back, turned out to be good size false alibi’s.
Cast the metal and wham , fast run on light tackle and twice around the boat before landing it.

They are a lot of fun. Little tunafish on any tackle they are fun. Light tackle is a blast
I like floating out a spearing on a small live bait hook. And when they grab it. Now that’s fun
I know we don’t agree on politics but here is something else we don’t agree on I bet
Did you ever eat a false albacore? I did and love it. I bleed it,boil the meat a guess its pouched. And make a tuna salad. It is great. Really I’m not kidding. Try one.
Bleed it. Chunk the meat and boil it. All the oils and gunk float to the top. Get the meat ,looks l8ke tuna only better. And make a salad with it .
