Boat wax?

What do you use? Was thinking of waxing it to keep it from getting dirty and yellow below the water line. Anything else easier than wax?

When I had my boat, I used Collinite fiberglass heavy duty cleaner (920), their marine wax (925), then their high gloss sealant (925). If I had a lot of slime, green, rust stains or brown crap on the hull or along the sides, I would use On-Off FIRST, be careful it's ACID, DO NOT SMELL IT, I did and almost passed out, it will not hurt the gelcoat. I suggested these products to my other boating friends, they liked it also. Again, it's just my lousy opinion.

Might buy a polisher. I don't have the time or patience to do it by hand!

My friend gave me a bottle of woodywax so I tried it.
Went on YouTube to see how it ;s applied.
1st step wash your boat
2 nd spray it on and spread it with a soft deck brush ( dont dry your hull, leave it wet)
3rd let it dry, walk away that s it.
I did it and it looks good,don5 know how it works but it does
Check it out on YouTube. Very easy ,I like that
Its expensive but works and easy

u guys got me interested, after 30 years, I might need to wax mine.

Phatdaddy I waxed m6boat all the time,it’s a lot of work but if you get a color restorerer for gel coat it works well. The woody wax I was talking about is very easy and looks good expensive but I think you will hav3 to first a gel coat restorerer then after that. Woodywax if you pay a detailed to do your boat ,you will b3 shocked on how nice it comes out.

Hey Step - My boats been sitting for several years and will need a serious cleaning when I get back to it. Do you have a recommendation for soap?

Also, I’ve never heard of color restorer - do you have a brand, or link to a product?

steplift20 06-20-2024 07:36 AM

Starbrite color restorerer but any marine gel coat that removes oxidation will work. 3M makes a good product
The thing is when you put it on it changes the gel coat quick, pretty cool. ***128526; you put it on like wax. Wax on wax off. But read the instructions carefully before you use it. And boat wash. I use any boat or car wash if I get boat wash on sale I would use it first but i useally use a cars wash and wax. ,I would not use liquid dish soap l8ke joy. It would probably remove the wax . I was lucky enough to get woodywax for free from my friend who is selling his boat. I used it and it works good and very easy but expensive.

Thanks Step - I’ll print this out and put in boat file for when I get back to it. Work to do on the truck, finish cleaning out the shop and then back to the boat (after any projects my wife has for me).
