Electric Trailer Boat Winch
Looking to purchase a new electric trailer boat winch for my 20' cuddy I/O V any suggestions on what size plus where to purchase?
I'm ruling out purchasing from Ebay Thanks in advance Ken |
Did you check harbor freight? If you get one get a heavy duty one. 5000 lb the least and get a snatch block too.

Powerwinch 712 has been the gold standard for years, probably some less expensive alternatives now. What brand and model are u replacing?
I have a float on bunk type trailer, so i only use about 2 feet of cable, so not that familiar with them |
LIke Phatdaddy said... Powerwinch 712. I have them on all my trailers and never really had a problem. And like Steplift said, get a snatch block also. Different launch ramps have different angles and sometimes on a really steep ramp they come in real handy. Harbor Freight snatch blocks are perfect for the task.
Capt Pete swears by the 3500 lb winch from Harbor Freight. Says he's never had a problem with loading a trailer. One word of advice .... no matter what you decide to use, make sure that you secure it to your trailer with some kind of lock. (I welded the ends of the bolts, destroying the threads making it impossible to easy take off the nuts). Nothing worse than coming back to the dock after a day on the water to find your winch is gone. . |
Power winch 712, I think that's the one I had on my trailer.
Correct me if I'm wrong, does that one have a back up hand crank also? So if it breaks you can use it manuelly. The one I had had the Manuel crank handle for back up. And I had to use it .a must have feature . Just checked out the price. They are over $600.00 pricey for sure. |
Thanks for the great infor. I'll check at Harbor Freight and also include the santch block and find a way to secure
