Hey Spare, need some Merc advice

I think my trim motor took a dump this weekend. I have the service manual and they tell me to pull the trim assy off to change motor. Friend of mine told me he swapped his in place.

Just wondering if you had any experience with them. It’s a 150 4S. 2016

Thanks

I haven't replaced a trim motor on one of those yet, some of them you can get to without pulling the bracket apart, some you have to at least pull one side of teh bracket off. I'd have to take a look at one. See if you can access all the screws holding the trim motor in place. You can pull the pin on the cylinder that may allow some wiggle room

This one only has 2 screws,so I think I can get to them. I found a YouTube guru who changed one on the bracket
Gonna run to dealer now to see if they have one in stock

I pulled the blue and green wires and sending 12V from battery, motor is failing, pretty sure motor is bad. This eliminates switches, relays, etc. that make sense?

Thanks

yes, sounds like the motor is bad

Picked up motor from local dealer, broke off first bolt I tried to take out, the one that hold the wire tab to the bracket

Not a good start

Will regroup tomorrow

Don t know how u do it Spare. If I worked on outboards all day, I d go home and drink a bottle of Gin every night

Gotta have long skinny fingers and excellent eyesight for seeing in dark tiny spaces

Anyway, I got it changed and is working fine.

Whadda think, fresh coat of paint and throw it on ebay?

This motor is 7 years old w 785 hrs. The Trim motor on my 94 Mariner was 20 years old w 1600 hours when I sold it. Looked like the day I bought it and never had a problem

I sprayed the new one down real good with Fluid Film. Don t know if that will do any good but at least when I have to change it again. it will be very messy

Did not have to remove bracket or trim assy

thanks for the help

when they get that bad, I've been known to break the motor housing off, remove teh armature, then I can get at the bolts easier. Usually its easier installing teh new one than removing the old one.

Phat ,it don't look that bad, maybe a little bondo and duck tape should keep it going . But I would keep it just in case you need a part off of it someday.
