Well, here we go again…..

So we went out today and about 25 minutes, she ran great. Then, she started acting up again. My kid said the bulb was getting sucked in. When I went to check it out, it seemed like one side of the bulb was almost flat. Not really sucked in but not fat and round. I thought maybe it’s possible it was the anti siphon valve, as I never swapped it out. It seemed to work as intended. The pickup tube also seemed ok.
HELP???????

did you unscrew the fuel cap when it was acting up? Check your fuel vent, if its got screen in it, it corrodes over and stops it up

I pulled the vent hose off the tank and blew through it. Aside from getting a blast of gas in my face, it seemed clear. I’m gonna swap out the filter element under the cowl and see if that works. If not, I guess I’ll replace the fuel line from the filter to the motor. That’s gonna be a *****. Hard to work on it while it’s in the water. After that, I don’t know what I’m gonna do.

Where did u unplug the vent hose from, the tank or the fitting on the gunnell?

Should not be any gas in the vent hose, it is higher than the tank. I know some gets in when filling tank, sometimes there is a loop put in to trap water or fuel, but should be able to blow through it with no back pressure

Disconnect both ends and make sure it***8217;s not restricted in any way

On this tank, the vent and fill are on the forward end of the tank, not the stern end ,right?

I think it has already been said - a sure fire way to isolate the issue is to connect to a 5 gallon portable tank. If you don't have one I bet you know someone that does and would let you borrow it. At least you would know which way to look.

I removed both ends of the vent hose and blew through it. There didn’t seem to be any obstruction. Yeah, the filler hose and the vent are both up front.
I’m not sure where I would hook the portable tank. At the filter? At the tank? After the filter?
This is becoming very old, very fast.

look at the screen in the vent, they will corrode up and stop up the vent fitting. If it acts up again, immediately open the gas fill, if it fixes the problem, then you know its a vent issue, not a fuel supply line issue

Done and done. Vent screen is good and I tried running it without the gas cap same.

phatdaddy 10-07-2022 07:55 PM

Try the separate fuel tank

charlie_the_tuna 10-08-2022 12:26 PM

I’m not sure where I should hook it up. Before/after the filter? At the tank? At the motor?
