made in USA.....

so i went to BJs earlier to pick up some gas cans. they had a good deal on some 5 gallon cans for $17.99. i was looking at used for $10-$15 each. i figured for just a few buck more, i'll pick these up and be set for a while.
well, midwest can company really is in the midwest and these cans are indeed made in the good old U S of A. i don't really care for the spout, but i'm gonna use the little electric pump from harbor freight. best dam $11.99 i ever spent.
so now, i just need to go fill up my 4 new gas cans for $100 bucks
while i sit here and type this, i realize that there's a plastic baffle in the neck of the can that will prevent me from sticking the pump into the can. ok, now to figure out how to remove the baffle and the effect it will have on whatever.
CRAP!!!

llok's like i'm gonna stick a broomstick in there and just whack it in there. i don't see another method.

That baffle is usually an insert. Try sticking a dental pick (available at harbor freight) into one of the baffle's holes and pulling it out.

yeah, i just stuck a small screwdriver in there and yanked it out with long nose vise grips. they also had this ridiculous cap lock on there so 10 seconds with the coping saw and that was gone as well.
i saw these identical cans on amazon for $9 bucks more. i might go and grab a couple more. only problem is they don't let you gas up at the slip so i have to leave the dock and pull out into the channel to gas up. now i have 4 gas cans in an already tiny cabin. 2 more and there won't be room for me. and here's where that little $12 dollar pump from harbor freight comes in. takes about 3 minutes to pump a can into the tank. this thing paid for itself long ago.

Is that the same battery powered transfer pump they’re selling now for that price?

charlie_the_tuna 06-10-2022 09:01 PM

Yeah. That’s the one. I knock out 20 gallons in under 15 minutes. Great little pump. I doubt it’ll last much longer, but it owes me nothing. When it craps out, I’ll have no problem buying another one.

I've seen those with the squish bulb but didn't know they made an electric. I can think of a few times I would've liked to have had one. Might have to pick one up.

Blue, if you use it once, you got your money's worth.
