Re: 27" Redfish
I caught a sheepshead before that was about the same size as the redfish you have pictured. He was about 15-16 lbs. This was about 12 years ago fishing with my dad on the CHASSAHOWITZKA RIVER. We both thought I had one of those redfish that that area is so well known for, what a shocker when I got him landed and seen it was a redfish. No camera that day(my dad hardly ever had a camera with us), so you guys will probably think it's just another fish story like the monster ***FISH my dad got that was around 5-600 lbs.

Re: 27" Redfish
I thought you were kidding about ***fish,
so I googled and found this 700 lber caught in 1975: FGound this one too, looks like they had to resort to a tow truck to pull it in: |
Re: 27" Redfish
The one my dad caught was 6' 2" long and a little over 7' in girth just behind the gill plates. There was 10" in between his eyes. He was a true monster. My dad winched him up in 130 feet of water with a PENN 6/0 SENATOR and a DAIWA graphite rod all on 80 lb ANDE line. He took a pair of channel locks to the grag and locked it down and used a 24" BLACK GROUPER for bait. He liked catching em for the fight, I like catching BARRACUDE for there speed.
