Wellcraft V20 replacement of steering cable Can I replace the steering cable without taking off the outboard..1989 v20 cuddy with a Yamaha 130 |

probably not. I think you'd be the first. Moving the hole down and aft to line up might make it possible later. You could try widening the hole back to the transom. My steering was still 1/2" from coming out. |

I did mine without taking the outboard off but it was a pain. Had to cut the hole out under the rubber boot. Not sure how yours is set up but the hole wasnt lined up with where the solid part of cable goes into the outboard. I think mine had a sleeve that went through the outbaord, took that out to give me some extra room. but had to prop up the motor so it didnt fall from what i can remember. It was a couple years ago. |

Success I put a round stick in the trim tube moved it to the side of the well and marked it...drilled a 13/8" hole next to the existing whole.. installed the cable into the tilt tube NO PROBLEM..I picked up a new 3" rubber boot will install right next to the existing boot..will look fine and didn't have to touch the motor..TY for the replies.. |

Congrats on the replacement. Pictures are always a great way to show off your work, and are eagerly looked forward to by all here. |
