Impressive Fire, very impressive. I love a good fish fry. That's one pretty lake you're on there. I'll be out scouting the flounder flats Sunday, so don't be long ;)

Re: Fire goes fishing...finally
Thanks Randleman & Air!
Man, my belly is full now...I really needed that! That watershed is a friend of mine's "pond." I call it a lake because it's about 20 acres in size! Could you imagine?! He is a bass fisherman and the crappies have gotten outta control so he wants me to keep as many as I can (in freshwater, I'm crappies and brim all the way.) Last fall me and a buddy caught 102, 3/4lb - 1lb. in about 5 hours!!! This time we only caught 20 but we made up for it in size. Lookin forward to it, Air. Got gas/bait $ ready! |

Re: Fire goes fishing...finally
Fire sounds like you ought to call in for some V boys to come get rid of them pesky crappies.
Very nice ;D |

Re: Fire goes fishing...finally
Thanks everyone!
BR: No I haven't. I spider-rig minnows half the time and jigs half the time. When I use jigs, I use a plastic bait known as a "crappie stinger." Depends on water color were I am but chartruese/smoke or chartruese/pumpkin are always a favorite. I don't do much "brush piling." I use my variable speed trolling motor to crawl around very slowly through stump fields and whatnot. During extreme cold or heat, I deep troll 8 jigs, drop-shotted with 1/2-3/4 oz. weights - I'm talking over 20' deep. I deep drop-shot minnows on the slow troll too. Sometimes marabou jigs but mostly crappie stingers cause they work in my local waters. Always looking to try something new. Where do you get your baits? Nice to talk with another crappie enthusiast!!! ;D By the way, I know there are 18" crappies in this guy's pond!!!! :o |
Re: Fire goes fishing...finally
The sliders are soft body jigs with a small paddle tail. They apparently behave just like a live minnow. I'm sure you could slow troll em through the stumps with great success. I jig them straight up and down off my dock around the pilings. I do have a limited amount of brush that I put out too.
I catch mainly crappies on the sliders but have landed LM bass, catfish, bream, etc. Other times I slow troll with my 9.9 kicker. Seems I always get smaller fish trolling though. |
