86 V20 CC repower with 150 Optimax
1 Attachment(s)
I'm sure others have this combo but wanted to post how happy i was with it. The boat had the original 150 BlackMax and I chose the Optimax cause It is only around 70lbs heavier than the Black Max.. This was an extremely easy repower. The Opti can use the same controls, fuel line, t&t, etc. as the BlackMax.
I'm running a 21 pitch ss prop and she is running 24 knots at 3100 rpms with incredible mpg's. Better or as good as comparable 4 strokes. Comes out of the hole quickly even with the 21 pitch prop. If anybody has any questions about repowering with an Opti, I'll be glad to answer. Don't know why my pics always rotate left and I can't make them show right side up. |
keep a tracker valve diaphragm handy, and a compressor belt. Its a weekend saver

Yep, put a new belt on when I installed the motor. What is a tracker valve diaphragm?

I found out about the tracker valve. Hadn't heard about it b4. Thanks for the info.

Heard a lot of good things about the latter opti s. Cousin had one he messed up running cheap oil in it, so make sure u get the good stuff.

That is one sweet looking boat!

According to my research, it was the early 3.0 motors that had issues that were eventually resolved but the 2.5 litre motors never had those problems. |

run good opti oil, and run Merc carbon guard/yamaha ring free. Keeping teh carbon buildup out of an opti is the key to making them live.

Will do!
