wow, you got a lot of grinding in your future. you don't say if your going to re-power or not, but if so, i'd look into going with at least a 25" transom. if you think the stringers are good, look at skunks transom rebuild using the pour method.

we love pictures here, so don't be camera shy.

Yes I do got alot of grinding and work ahead of me to get what I'm envisioning . Far as repower I'm going to put a brand new Suzuki 150 on it. Was thinking at work today I am going to tear out floor I liked the way Kracker Jack did his rebuild also to know what going on for sure . I love the look of this boat and been out out on a couple old wellcrafts . So w that being said let the fun begin I dont want to wastefully spend but this is an investment in something I love to do and that fish in peace no worries.

I think the 70's boats did not drain overboard. If you are all-in, think about raising the deck and adding scuppers. Definitely go 25" transom.

Not sure if the 70's transoms were flat across. If so, you could do a plywood or Coosa transom easily. the later hulls have multiple angles to the transom..

Thanks for input Skunk, I'm going w coosa transom and stringers .My neighbor is retired he worked at Viking Yachts for years and will assist me in project .Also raising transom and far as scuppers it does have them on both sides of motor. One thing has me curious the gas tank is aluminum and the previous owner covered it w resin ,actually a nice tank going to get its pressure check make sure good and use it . Will send pics when tear down starts busy w 9 to 5 job at the moment

Hey as long as we re spending ur money and sweat equity, go with a full transom and a bracket.

ridge runner has a sweet center console if u want to look up some of his post and there was another one. I can t remember his name. His got flipped in a bad squall and sunk at the dock. Somebody will remember. Unfortunately photobucket got greedy and lot of those pics are lost

Hey Kracker fu transom w bracket is a serious thought I'm only 42 dont have kids so why not treat myself. Also I'm attempting to build something will last me 15 years or so I fish the Delaware bay and also run out of capemay now w my Grady white and do a lil offshore when weather permits

Ethanol gas corrodes aluminum. That's the dirty little secret that the gas companies and the corn growers don't want you to know. That's why they ship the ethanol in trucks and blend it at it's final destination rather than blending it into the gas and sending it through the pipelines. The pipelines are made of aluminum and would corrode and leak. The PO probably covered the tank in resin to seal any leaks that might appear as the tank corroded from the inside out. :head:
