Mudhole Rod Building

A while back I signed up for a fishing rod building class put on by Mudhole.com. Today was the class and I have to say I had a blast. If you find one of these classes coming to a town near you I highly recommend it. We even had guys in the class fly in to take it from other states. We got to build a basic rod on day one and tomorrow we go over custom thread wraps, inlays and refurbishing rods. That’s the part I’m most into as I have a bunch of nice older trolling rods that just need freshened up. The class was $200 and you get to take home approx. $100 worth of tools and materials including a turning table. I don’t think it’s something that can make me rich doing but I plan on building all my own custom rods specifically for my boat and to catch fish on them is just too cool. I can’t wait to get a reel on my 1st rod and I don’t care what I catch, it will be awesome.

Those newly repaired rods will come in handy on the new boat. Speaking of it, how's the repair work on it going Thomas :head:

Hey Paul,

Haven’t really got going on the cosmetic repair stuff as I’ve just been trying to keep up with updating all the mechanical stuff. Pretty much having to put a whole new cooling system on both motors this winter which is costing more then I’ve ever paid for a complete boat in the past haha. But she’s in a covered boat slip so as far as the cosmetics I’m not to concerned for now.

Why yes, yes it can. I just ordered a bunch of upgraded equipment to make it easier. Looks like my whole shed will be a rod shop now.

Ouch on the new cooling system. :( Still, she will be a really great boat when all is finished. And while cosmetics are important overall, it's the mechanical that is the most important. Cause that's what gets you out and back. I have a feeling she's going to be a truly remarkable performer when you get her finished. Can't wait to go out on her.

If you want to make a mini vacation this summer come on down. I plan on fishing her ALOT this summer. We got it out for a few striper trips last fall and had a blast. What a difference fishing in her is compared to a smaller boat. Spring trophy season is right around the corner so I need to get to work!!

I just "may" take you up on that offer. Got some medical things scheduled for later this year. Gotta see how they shake out first. :head:
