Lousy fluking - good sea bass fishing

I think the waters are way too warm for the Flukies, they head to the deeper waters. Around here, right now the Ambrose Channel would be our best bet. No one's fishing for them or Blues, Blues are gone until next month and the boats are mostly concentrating on the Porgy's and now the Trigger fish are in the picture.

Yesterday, Tuesday, Golden Eagle and Miss B reported excellent 1-2 lb bluefishing for the first time in quite a while. Very few blues otherwise this year

They came in early and big, as soon as the water started to warm up, they were gone. We weren't even getting the cocktails in the bay, which is not normal.
The Golden Eagle is a great boat, :beer: we try to go on her twice a year. The first trip would be, if and when the Mackerel show up, the second would be a Blue Fish trip, we like to catch those Gorilla Blues. :sun: Michael likes them on the BBQ, I don't eat Blues unless they're cocktails and maybe one or two, that's it for the season.

Might be heading out tomorrow, still not sure for what, the bay is dead from what I hear, but we will be on the water and there isn't anything better than that.

Keep an eye on the weather... thunderstorms are in the forecast for tomorrow. Are what you are calling cocktail blues the little ones? Like a year old? Just trying to see if they are what we in New Jersey call Snapper blues. ... Pan sized and not oily.

Snapper Blues are around 8 inches and the cocktails are from 1# - 3#s, that's me. Everyone has a different size for what they would call Snapper Blues to Cocktail Blues, it's everyone's own choice. I also can tell the way their body has started to change, but that's me. Good eating, no oily taste. I use my 7' ultra lite St Croix with a 1/4 ounce Kroc or a Sidewinder with 6# test, standing in the water chest high and it's catch and release.
