1990 Evinrude tiller handle question
I picked up a 1990 6hp Evinrude tiller the other day. The wiring for the kill switch was ripped out on both ends. I got the wire routed and connected to the motor end just fine. I cannot figure out how to take the tiller handle apart to connect that end of the wire.
Ive attached a picture of the handle, any help would be appreciated. http://i1091.photobucket.com/albums/...sumfqv6gn.jpeg |
I have no idea how to take the handle apart, but I can tell you that a kill switch is a simple thing to wire. Several of my smaller outboards have them mounted in the front lower engine cowl. Rather than take a chance of breaking something expensive in the tiller handle why not just buy a new switch off eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/Outboard-En...9XD2cl&vxp=mtr, drill the proper size hole in the cowling and install it. Sometimes we over-engineer things when just the simplest of solutions will do the job better.

Destroyer, I like the way you think
doing what you said has been my plan B all along, since i cant even find a diagram on how to take this thing apart plan B seems like the way to go |
If it's like my 4.5hp, look near the bottom of the actual twist handle and there will be 2 tabs you push in. This allows the handle to slide forward. Be carefull as there is rollers and a pin inside that connect thethrottle cable to the ramp mechanisms. Once the handle is apart, it just basically falls apart in your hands, so be ready to catch pieces.
