Attachment 7229 Hi guys, was cleaning out my basement today and came across an old rod I picked up 20 years ago..anyone have an idea how old this rod mite be ?
|
I have no real idea, but my GUESS would be 1920's-1930's. My dad had a few like that and I think that's when his were from.

I have a couple of very similar outfits, but I don't know how old they are either.
You may find some info here http://www.antiquefishingreels.com/i_yourAge.html Or here https://www.orcaonline.org/ |
I figured at least one of you old salts would remember that stuff ,lol

Chum is the reel guru, maybe he'll have an idea.

I have a similar rod but it has a cork grip. My grandfather gave it to me. An old man we used to fish with when I was a kid used to use it all the time. He used to sand and varnish it every year. When he passed away my grandfather got it and gave it to me. I used it a few times but just hung it in my wall now. I wonder how many fish were caught on it? The old man was a hell of a fisherman.

When you say You wonder how many fish were caught on it ,the other day when I posted this thread I was holding it in my hand and thinking how could anyone possibly fight or even land a fish on it . The real is so Rudimentary, but they did and they were happy to have it! I can barely hold on to the crank with my sausage fingers, which reminds me how spoiled we are as I'm now looking at my new Penn Fierce 6000 that came today from Amazon with 2 day shipping.. oh no I feel myself going on a rant haha ! but anyway it's cool and I'll keep it forever

Back from the good ol' days. Wish we could go back.

Late response, sorry. My uncle gave me 2, one fly and the other one was a heavy conventional and they were made of split bamboo, that's what that stick looks like, could be wrong, just what I think I'm seeing.
I turned the fly stick into a spinner and used it for Snappers, it snapped when I hooked into a Blue and the conventional one I used for Fluke and had the same results, Fluke, stick breaks. They both broke after a few times, they were all dried out. |
