Carb leaking

Ok well I winterized my wellcraft today and started to winterize my other boat it's got a 1984 50 hp Mercury outboard I started it, ran rough stalled out at idle and noticed fuel pouring out of the top carb, my question is this, what do I do? What is wrong? Is the float stuck and how to fix it Thanks for any replys Thanks guys And hope you all had a happy thanksgiving

Sounds like a stuck float, might have to take the bowl off the carb and clean it up in there, or you may need a new float if it is saturated.

I see a bolt thru the middle of the bowl if I take it down are there any springs or anything that would make it difficult I have never taken a bowl off a carb before

Do I just hit it with carb cleaner if I take the bowl down ?

if its been more than 4 years since you had the carbs gone thru, have them done

I don't have any experience working on that model but here is a video of a guy working on his 1985 Merc 50 carbs.

I would always go with Spare's advise.

Randlemanboater thanks for tracking down that video, I think I will leave the carbs to the mechanics

NP...I should do more of that.

those carbs are real easy to rebuild, nothing complicated inside. But they are a pain to set back up on the engine correctly, there are some tricks to them. Set up correctly, they will idle as good as a four stroke efi engine. Take it to a shop that is familiar with that engine
