It’s happening again!!
Well it***8217;s been a while and our 23***8217; Coastal has been treating us good this summer. But I stumbled upon this bad boy.
http://i.imgur.com/989e6r4.jpg Going today to look at it. Might be making a barter deal with the guy with a truck I have that just sits so might work out for me. It needs some love, looks like the transom needs work by the infamous aluminum plate being there. It appears that was their solution to putting a 25***8221; motor on it. Here***8217;s another shot. http://i.imgur.com/qmV1dVN.jpg I***8217;ll probably try to make the deal as long as it***8217;s not rotten to the core. Not too worried about the transom at this point as I definitely learned what not to do with my green boat and think I can tackle the job if need be. It***8217;s got an older 140 JohnnyRude on it that will most likely get replaced. I***8217;d like to find a nice EFI 2 stroke or maybe even a 140-150 4 stroke. Should know more this evening and I***8217;m hoping it works out. I miss owning a V-20. |
Couple more shots. Motor cover is from a 90 but owner assured it’s a 140 by the serial tag. Any other way to tell?

Nice boat and I'm sure you have the knowledge to bring her back to her former glory. One thing.... that trailer is WAAAAAAAY too short .... Look at the tongue and see if it is extendable. If so extend it, then move the boat up on the trailer. If not then you'll need a new trailer or convert the rollers to bunks and make the bunks long enough to go under the transom for proper support.
In all cases, good find... And yes, you have the dreaded V20 sickness that so many of us have. :hide: |
thats a 115 cross flow, 140 is a looper, much bigger engine. They did make a 140 cross flow, but that was in the 70's when they used flywheel ratings, at best it was making 115 at the prop,
|
It has the bubble back exhaust chest, so it is a 140 cross flow engine provided it still has the big carbs(1 5/16" bore I believe for the 140 cross flow). They made them up to the early 80's, but in 85 the 140 looper came out. They were powerhead rated, but were said to be pretty close to 130-135 prop shaft hp, but hang onto your but when you see how much fuel one of them can drink. That's a 20" transom, so my bet is the transom is soft, and that's why it has the plate.

Wel I haven’t yet been able to go see the boat. The guy never contacted me back until late Sat and said he had an accident working. Still hoping to set something up with him soon.
|
Did you ever go get it?

But for now the search continues... |
Don't give up, took me almost a month to get a reply from the guys I bought my Ranger from.
Are you set on a center console? Cause I know a guy selling a cuddy... |
