1979 V20 I/O Questions

I recently joined the Community, and acquired, a 1979 V20 with 470 Merc I/O.
1st. group, of many questions as I go about checking out the boat,

Looks ALOT like a my old (76) 19.6 Aquasport Family Fisherman that I had.

1) There a 2- lift up doors on either side on the rear Transom. PO had "Plywood Boxes" on both sides that drained to nowhere.....(fill with rain water)
.
Were these Fiberglass at one time and maybe replaced?
where did they drain to? I had a searay that had ones that had thru hulls to drain out sides of boat above waterline.

2) where do the deck drains on either side of motor box drain to?
looks like just into bilge?

3) Does anyone have a link to copy of floor plan the this boat? and specs. would be appreciated, too

Wellcraft is unless, since they sold business, as many wellcraft dealers that I knew about are now selling something else.......

And many V20 photos I find have Outboards on them.....

I am no expert but iam sure one of these great guys will post something to help . If not look up in search section on site. Good luck . & congrats.

I have some photos of the "Transom Boxes" , that I'm asking about.

The lift out boxes , are plywood, not sure if original but fill up with rain water and have NO drains. Is that Factory?

They have to be removable to gain access to battery and trim pump.
and all the wiring back there......

Ive seen pic the factory ones were plastic not many survived yours are home made .i dont have anything in mine yet i just use to vent. Makes nice seat to seat on with feet in water on platform

Thanks, Tommydoe

Does yours also have the 2-wood hatches in front of engine cover, that go straight into bilge? are they also supposed to have liners?

Storage I guess?
Should mine have had a Back to Back, lounge seat on the Port side from factory?
PO has install 2- swivel seats on pedestals. (back to back)

Any guess on fuel tank capacity?
It does have SINGLE tank as I can see only ONE fill on starboard side, deck has 2- pry-out covers in floor.

I have the same compartment but mine has teak like the swim platform. I use mine for batt compartment . Put brace down then star board with site hole to make sure she stays dry . I have 2 27 ser deep cycle in there still room for tackle box & ropes

I see that your motor box is like mine, held down by "Gravity". no latches?

really like your 2 side seats, . wish Mine had that...were they a option?

Tommydoe 06-27-2017 05:08 AM

I meant to put some type of latch on but seats hold tight. I made mine out of old back to back seat i found on cg list. They sell jumper seats but the red ones where the original one's on port side the bottom was rooted so i took the best of the 2 i got on crags & cut the base apart on the other . I didn't mount the back ones so i can move more room to fish .

Oh they were not an option as far as i know but i saw what other people did & liked the idea i have 2 kids so needed seats . Half my friends have cussed me out they think takes up room to fish but they don't have children so another reason for not mountain.
