Engine cover insulation?
 

Has anybody found any thing good to reinslate inboard motor cover . Mine is shedding pretty bad . I know not many of yall are use in inboard s but maybe someone has had success .

Lead sheet has always been a good noise shield. Easy to mold and glue.

Check out some stuff called dyna mat, It's kind of pricey but works good, I believe there are some generic equivalents now but not sure what they are called.

Yea iam to tight to buy the dyna mat . I was hoping to find an alternative , the new motor is quite might just strip & run just fiberglass lid bare see how it does , . Do any normal stores carry that lead sheets or is that a order only thing not familiar with the stuff sorry ,

It is, as the name says, pure lead, rolled out to different thickness and width depending on what you order Usually about a 1/16' of an inch thick. Most industrial supply houses (McMaster-Carr) will carry it. You can also check Jamestown Distributors. Only problem is that lead has become horribly expensive due to the EPA and all. A 48 x 48 sheet will usually be over $250.

A bare fiberglass cover will likely act like a noisy drum. i would be hesitant to strip it unless i was prepared to replace it. Dyna mat is indeed expensive but worked well for me a while back.

My very first V20, back in the early 80's, had an I/O engine. The engine cover had no insulation on the inside. (I don't know if it came from the factory that way or the PO had stripped it out). Anyway's I had that boat for several years and truthfully I didn't really notice the engine noise while running. Before you spend large amounts of cash I'd try it bare first and see if it's tolerable to you.

(Another idea would be to go to your local junk yard and look under the hoods of older cars. Auto manufacturers used to line the underside of hoods with a fiberglass mat for heat and noise abatement. The engine side had some kind of coating on it to resist engine grime as I recall. Just peal off what you need cut it to shape and glue it on your cover. Or check your local auto supplier and see if he has any that's new).

Had the same thought about old hoods the matting materials. Was told today a family member had some left over dyna mat he used when he redid his carpet in his impala ,going to try sea trials this weekend can't wait .

Ever thought of a rubberized undercoating? I know it does wonders for road noise. There's a product called Lizard Skin that I'm sure is much better than rubberized undercoating but much more expensive.

Hasn't been long 1 hr fri , 3 hrs today but so far motor is quiet with cover bare no insulation no heat issue yet i think i am good . Thanks for tips.
