winter flounder try

65 degrees..Took off early and met my brother to try our luck at flounder fishing. Went to the public dock at the south entrance to PtPleasant Canal. 3 nice fish had just been caught when I walked up. At least I got to see a flounder.....v1

Caught nothing. Forecast is for 30 degrees for a week so we hatched a scheme to head to Pompano Beach Just booked a flight to FLL in 2 weeks.:sly::laugh:

Caught one on pearl tube fishing the back side of Corson's around this time a few years back. You can only keep two, not worth the expense in chum and gas to take the boat out for them.

Agreed. When they put the regs in effect that was the end of my Flounder fishing days. I can buy them in the store for far cheaper. (Of course, nothing will ever replace a day on the water, but to go strictly for Flounder now is simply not worth it). IMHO

(And the conspiracy theory guy in me wonders if getting me to buy them is all a big plot by the draggers and the Govt. so they get the fish and we don't).

.................and there I was, nearly a lifetime ago, age 15+/- in a row boat with 9.5hp

No chum, no depth finder, anchored 1/4 mile from bridge in Shinnecock Bay, Long Island, bailing flounder with my dad.
1/2" piece of worm on standard 2 hook rig, double headers common, catching 20-40 winter flounder on any given trip. All needed was good weather and fishing during the season.

All that has changed in just 30-40 years ....
Pollution in its many forms and commercial over fishing has taken the toll.

I use to get a boat out of Oscar's in the Hampton's with my father, shoot out all over the bay and go past the inlet to Heady Creek and pick away at big fat Flounders. At that time it was a can of corn for chum, blood worms and something I made up, cook Mussel's for a few minutes still must be soft then put them in a jar with yellow food color. One hook worm and the other with the Mussel's. So many times I had to walk the boat into the creek because of the low tide, once the tide started moving in, reel them up.
