Deutsch connectors
HI,
i was wondering if anyone here has used a Deutsch connector and what did they use for a crimping tool? The vendor wants $300.00 for the crimper and i really dont want to pay that much if someone has a better and cheaper way. jet. |
Nope. At least I haven't. Can't speak for everyone. BUT.. when you can buy a package of self sealing heat shrink connectors from Harbor Freight for less than $5.00 it's hard to justify a Deutsch connector. I can always cut the wire and replace 1" of length with a new connector if I ever need to disassemble a wiring job.
If I absolutely had to use a plug type connector I'd use a Molex type like they use in computers and various electronics. Yes, they are not sealed against the environment like a Deutsch is, but they are substantially cheaper, and to my mind far easier to assemble and use. Put a few drops of flowable silicone (The type used in automotive use to seal windshield leaks) in the rear to seal them and they should last for years with zero corrosion. |
I used weather pack connectors on my boat. They're not as good,in my opinion as the deutsh, but I was able to use my regular crimping tool to put the ends on. I wound up just hardwiring the stuff down the line anyway like destroyer said.
