Paint
So getting to the point where I need to start thinking about the paint. I have made a bunch of patches with marine rx but a lot of you know the original gelcoat is a sort of off white or cream color. Just wondering has anyone tried to color match their gelcoat? If so could you share your combo on the pigment colors and how much you used. If I can't get it to match the gelcoat, I was thinking about just spraying the whole thing with awlgrip.
Any thoughts? Thanks Austin |
Austin, I have zero knowledge on how to match paint, but I know that if you bring a color chip to Sherman-Williams they have a computerized machine that will *exactly* match the color. I don't know if they have a marine paint, but since they bought Conlux years ago, and they (Conlux) made the coatings that covered the Tappen Zee Bridge over the Hudson River and several other large industrial applications I'm sure they will have a formula for just about anything. Just a thought if you're dead set on an exact match. Good luck with your project.

I think I'm going to try and match the gelcoat I've done it before on a boat I worked on a few years back. That boat was easy though just one shade off bright white. But if it doesn't work and can't get it to come close, I think I'll just spray the whole thing with awlgrip.

Remember, we love boat porn. Before and after pics are awesome.
