Reflections on the election.....

I, and I'm sure others here, certainly have thought about gloating... of rubbing salt into the wounds of the esteemed opposition. But I got to thinking about it. And I realized that, unlike Obama's saying they won, that elections have consequences and then ramming the largest spending bill in history down our throats, this is not a time for gloating, (although we could certainly do the same thing). This is also not a time for protesting (Unlike those idiots and criminals that are rioting in some cities). This is not a time to be a hindrance or obstructive.

This is not even a time for healing... (although that certainly is a constructive plus should it happen along the way).

As I see it, what this is, is a time for everyone.... BOTH sides, to keep an open mind and to try, with all their might, to help their Country. Do it by getting involved. Make constructive suggestions and searching questions. We have a completely unique opportunity to actually DO something about the problems that have been facing our nation for a long time. If you don't like something... speak out. But do it peacefully. Tell you representatives. If you have a constructive suggestion, again, do the same thing. Give voice to your thoughts... both by contacting your Congressman or Senator and by forming or joining like thinking political groups (in your own town, county and state). Let your voices be heard loudly and clearly... but peacefully. Try to keep an open mind.

It really is time to drain the swamp, ...to at least start the process of transforming Washington from the corrupt mess it is now into something that actually works for the people. And if we fail.. if we don't succeed... then it's time to try again, and again, until we finally remove the cancer from the American dream. We MUST work together. And, unfortunately, we WILL be resisted. There are lots of very rich people (elites) on both sides of the aisle that are very happy to keep things as they are so they can rule us. They take our money and give us little if anything in return, while they live fat and happy, leeching off of us. (A perfect example is Mitch McConnell (R) [Senate Majority Leader] who, as soon as he heard about Pres. Trump's plan to try and impose term limits on Congress and the Senate, said that it was not in his plans to bring it up for a vote). That's the kind of resistance that we will face, and that's the kind of resistance (from BOTH sides) that we must work to eventually overcome and eliminate if we are really serious about taking back our Government from this multi-headed corrupt viper that it is now.

Truly, I wish that I was more skilled in writing. I write from the heart, but I don't have the ability to turn a phrase as well as some other people here on this site and elsewhere. So just hear my words and remember the quote from President Obama. "Elections have consequences". For once, "We, the People".....We may actually have the opportunity to effect change. Keep an open mind, bury the hate, lets work together to try and reshape our Country back into the greatness it once was.

Well said Destroyer.

Agree, well said. This country is great due to it's location, resources, and scarifices of those who came before. It could be a whole lot better if we could trim the fat and dead weight. We'll see, I hope for the best, but if the "swamp" does get drained we'll be seeing a lot of ugly creatures with which we will have to deal.

no one will vote their job away, the only way to get this is to make it start now ,all people who are now in can stay in until they die or are voted out, anyone voted in from now on has a 2 term limit, this will take 50 years to be fully in force but we must do it

Well, it's not a bad idea. Just vote the person out the next cycle and you have a new guy with term limits imposed. You could drain the swamp in 12 years.

Personally, since we're talking about wishes rather than reality, I'd love to see a law that makes every member of congress required to have the same health coverage as whatever they pass and impose on the rest of the population... no more sweet deals just for them... additionally I want to see it required that they serve a minimum of 20 years before they get full retirement benefits... just like the rest of us. (For anyone that doesn't know, if you are elected to Congress, you get full pay for the rest of your life, even if you only serve one term). These thieves known as Congressmen and Senators have stolen from the American public for too long. They vote themselves their salaries, retirement benefits, health care, etc. It's like the fox guarding the hen-house. There really needs to be an agency, NOT made up of ex-congressmen, that determines the pay scales for congress, not the congressmen themselves.

Big sigh of relief. As Destroyer wrote... No time for gloating. Let's all work together, ut our differences aside and take care of the U.S.A. and her citizens by making the changes necessary to put us back on the map! Full speed ahead.

It was such a good feeling to hear of Donald Trump speaking with Carrier yesterday, This is certainly a big step toward rebuilding our country back to what it once was. Absolutely feeling like we're on the rite track
