Did A Little Teak Work

Tried my hand at a bit of teak refinishing and rod box insert rehab. Thanks to the info on here I think it turned out pretty good.

Looks great!

Reel nice Did you also paint the boxes?

Greyduk 06-18-2016 05:43 PM

Yes I used the Rust-Oleum paint for plastic. I had a little trouble finding it but finally found it at AutoZone. I also patched the boxes with fiberglass resin and cloth.

Looks great man... Im almost finished with putting my boat back together again. What started as teak refinish, turned into rod box rehab, chrome and stainless steel polishing, wet sanding and compounding.

I wanted to keep the original rod boxes (plus i'm being cheap!!) so I patched with marine tex and painted with some spray paint... cant remember the brand. I am happy, only I am going to repaint the boxes the same color as the floor, anyways that's what I'm thinking today;)

Nice to see someone else rehab the teak, love the look!

Thank you for the kind words. Good luck with your project. Be sure to post some pictures. I would really like to see what you've done.

I absolutely will be showing final pics... you can see some of the teak work if you look through old threads. I've posted some from back in Feb/March I think.

When you put the teak back on the boat, did you use any marine sealant on the screws, etc? Did you screw back into the same holes, or new ones for better grip?

Greyduk 06-21-2016 12:32 PM

I did not use any sealant. There wasn't any in the screw holes when I removed them. I did go back in the same holes. They all snugged up fine. I had done some repair to the holes in the rod boxes themselves which helped with a secure mount.
