Ferm, help..........

so my truck, 2002 Yukon xl with the 6.0, when I go to start it up it takes on the second or third shot. it turns over fine but wont catch till 2 or 3 turns of the key. if this was back in the day i'd swap out the plugs and maybe cap and rotor. on these things, I don't know what the crap is going on. what does a tune up consist of on this motor??

A tune-up is changing the fuel filter, putting in plugs(only use AC DELCO platinum or iridium's), and changing the wires if they look bad. Sounds like either you have a fuel pump getting weak, something in the fuel system bleeding pressure down, or the throttle body is getting gunked up with carbon. Also trucks prior to 03-04 had fuel pressure regualtor issues that would allow fuel pressure to bleed off through the vacuum line to the intake, and the gas would flood the engine out when you go to start it. Try turning the key on, wait 5 seconds, shut it off, then turn it back on and start it. This will tell you if it is a problem with fuel pressure bleeding down. Also look at the fuel rails and find the regualtor, unplug the vacuum line from it and see if it looks like gas is in it. If tehre are any signs of gas in the vacuum line, replace the regualtor(common problem and pretty cheap to fix).

charlie, we had a problem with our 02 Tahoe not cranking, engine turn over, but not start. turned out to be key tumbler. security system would not let engine start. probably not it, but does it do it on all keys?

only have one key.

My 2002 Tahoe was the fuel pump. get cheap from rockauto $130 verses $250 at the zone and others, been a year since wre cvhanged it asnd still going! Hardest part of the job was dropoing a full tank of gas! Always the way when it breaks, has a full tank!:zip:

Ain't that the truth. Mine went out a few years ago and the first thing the mechanic said was"let me guess you just filled up". Said easily nine out of ten times the tank was just filled up when they go. What do you think that's all about?

Easy... Pump usually fails when low on gas because it gets overheated when running on fumes.... As it starts to die people think oh crap I'm running out of gas n fill up.... When it keeps getting worse or dies altogether they head for the mechanic.

both ,my chevys went with no warning! but agree that running on a low tank causes it, i always fill at 1/2 as tank

that will never be an issue because I cant afford to fill the tank.
