bow rail ppoject

ok can any help me with this? going to cut down bow rail. mine looks just like the one on the home page. the front exstansons are 12 inch from base to bottom of rail. the two rear ones are 9 inches from base to bottom of rail. I want the front of the bow rail to sit 6 inches off the deck. so would cut 6 inches out from the front ones and 4.5 from the rear ones. I am thinking that this would move the rail back a little the end caps they go into so you would also have to cut the two ends to fit.does this sound right to yall? the fall of the rail(or angle) should be the same but just lower thus pushing the rail futher back? I am going to try this weakened. just trying to see how much to cut from each exstanson. thanks in advance

bow rail lowered

My$0 .02. I cut my bow rail so I could get the v in the garage (7ft ht x 16 ft wide door) I had to cut a section out of the middle as the reduction in height, 6 inches, also moved the rail back a bit, AND changed the needed curve for the bow. I also ended up cutting off the 5 degree attachment points near the cockpit, as the fittings there changed also. I used furniture type nylon plugs. I am OK with it, its a fishing boat.
BUT if you have the tools, or a muffler or pipe shop near by, you might be able to bend the ends downward and use base rail hardware to attach them to the deck. if it don't work cut em off.

If you cut the upright different amounts, the angle will change between those two uprights. Seems to me you'd need to cut the same amout from each of the uprights to avoid changing the angle & getting it in a bind.

changes

You are correct sir, ALL the angles of attachment change, some a little some a Lot. and the rail is wider originally at the widest part of the boat deck, that point now moves back. (picture an overhead view of the rail in its original place. Now move it astern a few inches) it gets complicated. Cutting is simplest. Bending gets the best look but is really difficult w/o some special tools.
