Underbody Sounders and Speedo's

I was wondering how many people still have these, and or use them?

I found these on my boat and plan to remove them and glass in the openings.

It seems like the depth transducer would cause a lot of drag, and the Log/Temp/Speedo would have a modest amount of drag also.

My plan is to pot in a depth transducer inside of the hull. I used this method on my sailboat and it works great, although I did have some issues with the epoxy leaking out of my paper cup mold.

As long as there are no voids (air pockets) in the hull layup, it's a great method that eliminates drag, prevents damage. I hate those transom mounts--they always break off.

I have a thru hull ducer in my Monte Carlo

It had 4 of em when I got it and since I only needed one I just bought thru hull fittings and bull caps to plug the holes.... MUCH easier than glassing and takes out any risk of not glassing the patch right.

Unless you have a VERY fast boat the drag is prolly a non issue.

Good idea Smoke.

Patching a small hole like that is pretty easy. I typical do these from both sides. It's a dirty job but not at all difficult. 30-60 minutes a day for a week and was stronger than a plug.
