High idle

1988 150 mercury black max started her up on Saturday hard to start at first cause this is the only year I did not winterized her cause I had to bring her in to get the trim fixed so started her up and she's Erving high about 2000 rims let her warm up about ten minutes but she still revs high I'm thinking I should lower the idle by turning the screw but what else would cause her to rev high didn't rev high when I stop using her What do you guys think I should do first Thanks p.s. My wife is going to killmeif I have to take her to the shop again I need help cause I want to live Thanks

one of the smart guys will be along, but does the fast idle lever make a difference? i'm like you, i'd hold off turning screws for a while. i'd check cables make sure they are sliding like they should, maybe even disconnect the throttle and see if you can operated by hand.

there is also some kind of electric throttle thing on the cable adj plate, but that might be efi, dfi only, not sure

hold fast, somebody will be along

The 2 cables are new I'm thinking the very cold weather has something to do with it plus I'm getting a plastic drum so I can put the motor in it and see if the back pressure will affect it not to sure what to do

Be sure the linkages are all lubed be fore turning screws. Sometimes a cable will get a slight twist in it causing this too. Could it be idleing high until it warms up to operating temp?

Methinks you may be running lean

I agree. If the linkages are not sticking, then most likely your carbs are gummed up, and it is running lean.

Should I put in sea foam
