Gas smell
 

Does anyone know if you can get to the fuel fill hose and vent hose on a 1994 v20 center console with out having to take the deck cover off?

Hi Daydreamer, When I replaced those hoses on my 88' I had to take the deck hatch cover off to be able to wiggle and pull them out and to insert the new ones. I also found that the screws that held the fuel gauge/sensor to the plastic tank had rotted over time leaving a gap tht would open and let fumes and gas leak out. The screws were steel the sockets are brass.

I cleaned the old screw holes with a small dental type pick nd ran a tap to clean the threads. (you can go oversize if you are careful) new screws and a new gasket took care of it along with new hoses while I was in there.

Btw there is room for a rubber gasket under the hatch rim. I am going to use one before I close it all up and caulk it. still getting ready for spring. I'm thinking surgical tubing or similar for the gasket , large O ring.

Don't have experience with fill hose but when I replaced my fuel line from tank to engine, I pulled a strong twine in when I was pulling the old line out - made it pretty easy. May not be useful in your situation but wanted to mention it.

The fuel fill hose is pretty hard to work on and off. An old one very likely might have to be cut off. IF you were able to access it you wouldn't be able to apply enough muscle to it to work it with out being right on top of it in my opinion. Not to be a downer, but those hoses usually don't pull loose being double clamped. It would be a good idea to remove the hatch to find out whats really going on. Could be a hole worn through a hose due to vibration and rubbing up against a rough piece of fiberglass where it passes through the stringer, could be a leaky tank, possibly a gasket on the sender going bad too.

Yes you should be able to access from outside.
