Bought a used RIB
Or maybe just called an inflatable boat because it deflates and fits in the back of SUV.
It's an Avon 3.50 and I plan to run it with my 1972 Evinrude 9.5 hp outboard. Filled the assorted chambers - and it doesn't leak ! Cleaned it, bought an electric pump so the plan is to use it when and where for some back bay / lake fun. |
I went the opposite route and bought an older Sears Gamefisher 12' skiff powered by my 9.9 Force engine. Little boats like that are great in the rivers and smaller lakes. I think you'll have a ball with yours Greenie. Best of luck with it!!

i had a boston whaler inflatable made by zodiac called a ZED. had a mahogany ply deck that came in pieces and locked in under the chambers. i powered it with a 7.5 honda. threw it in the back of a mazda diesel pickup ('81) and bummed around the keys with it for a week or two. by far the cheapest trip i have ever made down there
enjoy it |
Yep that's an inflatable ... A RIB is a 'Rigid Inflatable Boat' and has a fiberglass or aluminum hull w a tube around it.
I suspect you'll have a ball w it! |
Good Luck! Destroyer I started salt water with a 12' gamefisher with a 6hp johnson, man I had a ball in that thing!!
|
Thanks all ..........the " concept " is that I can load inside SUV and get on the water nearly anywhere / any time feasible.
We'll see........ |

12' gamefisher with a 4 hp Mariner for me, took it places I never should have been, both offshore and inshore LOL. |
same here! I would never think of going were i use to in that thing. But was young and crazy then, now just crazy!!
|
Had a 12' aluminum semi v and a '56 rude 7.5....
Motor was given to me by a 7th grade teacher of mine with a rod through the block... Bought a used rod for $20, jb welded the case, cleaned the carb and took that old beater out on Sandusky bay and Lake Erie in rough water many times... My 'bilge pump' was pulling the plug under way and when it was rough the plug stayed out ... Lol Oh to be a teenager again..... Bullet proof! |
12' SeaKing Fiberglass with a 4.5hp Merc, on a trailer because it was too heavy for a child and his mom to put into the trunk of a 1972 Pontiac LeMans. Those were the days! Simple and fun. Enjoy your RIB, it will do all that fiberglass starter boat would, except sink...
I know it doesn't seem likely but i have a 19' skiff that drafts not much more than the old 12' fiberglass I grew up in. Beating around the backwaters and exploring without risking tearing something up.. love it still. |
