Wood under panel
My panel in the middle of the deck the screws are coming loose so what I'm going to do is take the deck up and put wood under and secure it so I can screw into the wood my question is this how to glue it to the fiberglass and what kind of wood should I use.

the fuel tank cover?
if so, i used west g-flex to bond small chunks of starboard under the holes. i had small pieces of pressure treated pine and they broke down after a few years. starboard has held up great and can apply more torque than with wood http://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-s...dener--9223132 this is the stuff, but they make a thickened that is like toothpaste, use it |
What is gflex I never heard of it and where can I get it. Yep it's the panel that covers the fuel tank. I'm glad you told me not to use treated wood cause that's what I was going to use.

Did you only put pieces under the stripped out holes . If so how long of a piece did you use .i don't want to put a small piece than I have to do it again . I'm going to use it under all the screw holes cause I know if I fix only one the others will strip out soon.

i tabbed it under all of the holes. i used a piece of 1/2 starboard to give the screw plenty of meat to bite to.
the gflex is GREAT stuff, i use it all the time for small projects. i used to it to adhere a piece of starboard to my transom for my transducer. no holes in the transom. tducer attaches to starboard only. used it to attach small strips of starboard to deck in my small whaler to hold fuel tank & battery box in place, etc. i like the thickened better than the other, seems everything i do is vertical. http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps593b2ead.jpg this is a shot of the "clamps" i used. just a cross section of pvc(2") with a small piece cut out. you don't want to clamp to tight, it will squeeze out all the epoxy |
Thanks for the pics and the p v c pipes to hold them in place is a great idea thanks. I'm going to make the clamps it will give me something to do till it starts to warm up a little. I'm in nj.
