Did anybody use git rot to repair there transom, to me it's to easy, I want to use it it's like all you do is pour it on to the wood and wait. ,,,,, What do you thonk

I think it would be ok IF the wood was dry but since it will never be dry it needs to be opened up, removed, and replaced with either new wood or a pour in.

This exactly. I tried drying mine with halogen and infrared lamps for a few days then using kwik poly. It felt solid, I was going to glass it back up. I ground down the edge and when I started blowing it off I found it was still wet.
I'm going to replace it now. If it's wet and soft it'll never dry and be solid.

The wood cells expand / swell when wet, which breaks down the solidity of the wood.
Not good. Best to replace and encapsulate or use some other material.

Not to mention if wet in the north, it will freeze in the winter causing cracks in the glass! Replace it!!

Striper,
Is your transom wet on your 99' Wellcraft?
If you do replace the transom please to pic of the project.
Hoping that I don't have to do the transom on our 96' but I'm sure time will dictate that.

I would use Coosa board if I was going to replace rotten wood.
However the pour in transom idea sounds easier.

The transom on my 99 is ok. The transom that is wet is on my 82 Grady. I have a thread on here that I will update when I replace it. I plan on using marine plywood and poly resin to do it.
