New Poster - help needed

I grew up fishing a '73 V20 cuddy that got nuked in Hurricane Katrina. After owning a few other boats, I decided its time to get back to my roots. Located a nice V20 fisherman hull (’85) project at a price I couldn't resist. Transom and stringers are sound and hull itself looks great with a buff and wax. However, I have a number of soft spots on the deck and will be replacing the entire deck. Original console can be repaired but I'll be adding a leaning post.

I see the '85 catalog on this site, but am wondering if anyone has a schematic of the ’85 deck layout, with measurements, etc? I want to make sure I have room for the post i want within hull dimensions.

Thanks in advance.

Sadly a rotten deck almost always has rotten stringers under it.... Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst when you dig in.

Soft decks are caused by the wood under it rotting out due to wetness and lack of ventilation. Rot is not selective. As Smokeonthewater just said, most times when the deck is soft it means the wooden stringers are rotted also. Best of luck with your project. Do a search or two on this site for lots of threads by people that have had the same problem and how they went about fixing it.

if your going to replace the entire deck anyway, getting to the stringers will be easy, also let you get a good look at the fuel tank

good chance to drill some exploratory holes in the bottom of the transom too

Thanks! Yes, I'm checking out the stringers while the deck is off. Also, checking the tank more thoroughly (though it looks good so far) and changing the fuel hoses.
