Saturday report

7 blues and 3 short bass that were released.

Not the hot bite it was..........the bass seem to be away on vacation.

Not that I have been out. but the story with our 52* water the blues and bass have headed south already! Going to be in the 20's at might this coming weekend, with highs in the 30's. Winter is here!!

Te reports down here in Florida say the blues showed up about 3 weeks ago. I know I caught a decent sized one 3 weeks ago.

Average size in the gulf is only about 2-3 pounds for the most part, but the one I got was about 5 or 6. Not big by any means, and probably considered small compared to what you guys get up nawth. A 7-8 pounder is considered big down here, but I still remember getting about a 13-15 pounder years back trolling off of New York and thought it was a monster until we stopped and somebody called it a nice little guy in port.

funny. we were shark fishing years back and we had all 50 internationals set out and using whole mackerel. the blues were around every so often and chopping up baits like mad. we got a big hit on the deep rod and I grabbed it and the dam thing was stripping line like a champ. we figured it for a small mako as it wasn't pulling like a 200 pound fish. brought him in and it was my biggest bluefish ever. 22 and a half pounds. beast of a blue. gave me a decent fight on 50 pound gear. got that same old discussion going again. imagine a 75 pound bluefish?? be one bad a$$ mother trucker.

This is a possibility - the week before the storm of Nov 1 -3 the big fish were being caught up and down the jersey coast, feeding on bunker, it was game on.

After the storm......... very few fish being found from Sandy Hook to Cape May..

Know of a decent bite at first light at the tip this morning. Later in the day, off of Long Branch. Always a day late.
