need help with a fuel flow problem

i think i have a fuel primer bulb issue. this is on my 13 whaler. when i run at high speed,. the engine will stall out, i can pump the ball and the motor will pick up again. i thought i might have a bad fuel pump, but then i decided to put a gauge on it. with the motor running, i have about 1-2 lbs of positive pressure, so i thought that meant good pump. i then turned the motor off, pumped the ball up until firm, had 5 lbs on the gauge, then noticed the gauge went to 0.
does this mean the check valve in the primer bulb is bad? if so, would this cause the engine to starve for fuel while running? it's a moeller, so i'm going to change it anyway, just wondering if i'm on the right track sorry for the long read, thanks for any input. |

throw the moeller in the trash can, get a good mercury/Bombardier/Yamaha/ Zuke primer bulb. I use the bomb bulbs on a regular basis. they appear to be the same thing merc is selling. Use good quality fuel line, and eliminate the quick connects if you can, go directly to barb fittings. Don't buy one of those prepackaged fuel line kits, they are junk. Dont forget to check the fuel pick up in your tank if you are using portable tanks, I've seen them swell and get loose at the the fitting inside the tank, I've seen them split as well.

merc bulb seems to have fixed the problem, can pump it up to 5 lbs static and it holds for 20 minutes, other bulb would go to 0 in 15 seconds. going to run it this afternoon & see.
spare , you were right on with the fuel line, inside seems to be separating, going to change it out also. thanks |

one of the local marinas has had no E gas for at least 5 years. I work there often and have checked their gas more than once. It doesn't have ethanol in it, but its sure got something in it that will burn your skin and still attacks rubber fuel lines. I used to clean parts with gas when i was younger, now this stuff will make your skin burn and turn red almost instantly. Its not E, but it can be just as bad

had to go get some more gas, checked it and it tested good, no ethanol. must be the stuff your talking about spare. did not get to run boat today, will try tomorrow.
	thanks for your help |

love it when i can get a fix for under 20 bucks |

(And it wouldn't take to much of a stretch of the imagination to think that the truckers "might" be disposing of other chemicals by adding them to the gas they deliver... after all, who's gonna know? Right? So what if the stuff burns the skin, it's in the gas tank and shouldn't touch the skin anyways... and if inhaling the fumes makes people sick.... prove it... Yes, I'm talking conspiracy theory here.... but it makes you think.. or at least.... it should... :head: |
